THE SUBJECT

The Subject is a feature film which follows Phil Waterhouse, a successful white documentary filmmaker as he deals with the fallout from his last film, which caught the murder of a Black teen on tape. While working on his newest documentary project for a major TV network, someone films Phil’s every more, threatening his idyllic life.

 The Subject has won Best Feature Film awards from BronzeLens Film Festival, Catalina Film Festival, DC Black Film Festival, Lighthouse International Film Festival, Stony Brook Film Festival, and The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival as well as the Spotlight Feature Film award from the Loudoun Arts Film Festival and Audience Awards from Capital City Black Film Festival and Naples International Film Festival. Director Lanie Zipoy has been named Best Director by the Newark International Film Festival and The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival. She also received the Mira Nair Award for Rising Female Filmmaker from the Harlem International Film Festival.
Jason Biggs has been named Best Actor by Breck Film Festival and Loudoun Arts Film Festival while receiving the Jury Award for Best Performance from the San Antonio Film Festival. Aunjanue Ellis has won Best Actress awards from the DC Black Film Festival, Newark International Film Festival, and The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival. She also received a Special Mention for Outstanding Performance from the Loudoun Arts Film Festival.
